FAQs about me

My name is Laura, I am twenty three, and live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire in December of 2006, with a degree in Social Work. I am currently a license social work, but I am still searching for my first professional job. I interned in the area of adoption which I really enjoyed, but have not been able to find a job in.
I have been knitting since the fall of 2004. I was inspired to knit by a friend who knit on a road trip to Madison. We were heading down there to register voters for the 2004 election at the Ani DiFranco and Margret Cho concert. We were working for the Feminist Majority. I not only had the time of my life seeing two of my favorite entertainers, but I also took my first steps into the world of knitting.
I now consider myself to be a fairly advanced knitter. I enjoy fair isle knitting the best, especially worked in the round Norwegian style. My favorite color is wine, and I have bought way too much yarn in this colorway. I prefer natural fibers over\arcrylics, especially wool. Lately plant fibers have caught my interest such as bamboo and soy. These fibers are so soft! Shetland wool is my favorite to knit with even though it is scratchy. I favor Addi Turbo needles for most projects but I love the opportunity to use dpns. I love knitting socks ankle down on size 1.5 dpns and fingering weight yarn. I usually have one or two socks going at a time.
I have just recently started spinning. I have a Kromski Prelude wheel, which is a saxony style single treadle wheel. I also have an antique wheel from Norway which my great great grandmother brought with her to the United States. I’ve only spun wool so far, but I hope to explore other fibers.
